Troubleshooting - How to Fix Black Screen

If your drone has a black screen, please follow the troubleshooting manual below to solve the problem.

Note: Please turn on the OSD function before you diagnose this problem.

There are two situations for a black screen, the different situation has different solution.

 

1) Black screen with OSD info on the screen.

2) Black screen without OSD info on the screen.

Troubleshooting Manual

  • Situation 1: Black screen with OSD info on the screen.

If your drone can fly great even without the FPV goggle and there is OSD info on the screen, it proves that there is no problem with the FC.

 

Step 1 Check Wire Connection

  • Check the wire connection, including the wire connection between FC and VTX, VTX, and camera. 
  • Check whether the soldering is great and the connector cable is loose. 
  • Kindly suggest you re-plug the connector cable and then power up again to check whether the screen comes back to normal.

 

If the wire connection is good and there is still a black screen after you re-plug the connector cable, it proves the black screen is not caused by the wire connection. In that way, please continue to follow Step2.

 

Step 2 Check Camera

  • Power up firstly.

         1) For the FPV drone, we can confirm that the cause for the black screen is a defective camera.

         2) For HD or 4K drone, please check whether the LED on the DVR board will blink or not.

           a. If the LED on the DVR board will blink, we are afraid that the camera is defective.

           b. If the LED on the DVR board will not blink, we are afraid that the DVR board is defective.

 

  • Situation 2: Black screen without OSD info on the screen.

 

Step 1 Check Wire Connection

  • Check the wire connection, including the wire connection between FC and VTX, VTX, and camera. 
  • Check whether the soldering is great and the connector cable is loose. 
  • Kindly suggest you re-plug the connector cable and then power up again to check whether the screen comes back to normal.

 

If the wire connection is good and there is still a black screen after you re-plug the connector cable, it proves the black screen is not caused by the wire connection. In that way, please continue to follow Step2.

 

Step 2 Check FC

  • Power up firstly.
  • Please use a tweezer or a conductive tool to connect the in pad and out pad on the FC or the cam pad and VTX pad on the VTX.
        1) If the screen comes back to normal, we are afraid the OSD chip on the FC is broken, which means the FC is defective.
        2) If the screen has not come back to normal, we are afraid the OSD chip on the FC is broken, which means the FC is defective. And there might be some problem with the camera too, please follow Step 3 to diagnose the camera.

Step 3 Check Camera

  • Power up firstly.

       1) For the FPV drone, we are afraid that the camera is defective.

       2) For HD or 4K drone, please check whether the LED on the DVR board will blink or not.

           a. If the LED on the DVR board will blink, we are afraid that the camera is defective.

           b. If the LED on the DVR board will not blink, we are afraid that the DVR board is defective.

    My brand new F4 1S 12A ELRS v2.0 shows black screen with OSD, camera & VTX are brand new and wires have good connection, bad OSD chip?
